Hallmarks (1858-2018)

Important events that happened in the history of the Congregation.

Rev. Mother Annammal started a community for widows in Tiruchirappalli with the permission of Bishop Most Rev. Alexis Canoz and the Congregation had its birth.
Arrival of European Sisters of the Society of Maria Reparatice to give religious formation to the Sisters of the Congregation.
Congregation was re-established to new life with nine widows and Foundress Rev. Mother Annammal became the First Superior General.
Canonically Erected as a Diocesan Congregation. Second community was started at Adaikalapuram in Tuticorin Diocese, Tamil Nadu.
Constitution of the Congregation was formulated in the General Chapter and approved by Bishop Most Rev. Alexis Canoz.
Foundress Rev. Mother Annammal died. Rev. Mother Elizabeth Mary was elected as the Second Supeior General.
Night School was started in Tiruchirappalli for imparting education to girl children. Sisters also attended the night school.
Rev Mother Arulayee Mary was elected as the Third Superior General.
Silver Jubilee Celebration
Rev. Mother Agnes Mary was elected as the Fourth Superior General. Sisters were trained in craft and weaving.
Convent Building with Land at Melapudur in Tiruchirappalli was purchased for the Congregation from the Bishop of Tiruchirappalli.
Sisters were sent to Mangalore to get trained in weaving and other related works.
Weaving Institute was started in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India.
Rice Mill was started in Tiruchirappalli to provide jobs for widows and unwed mothers.
Technical Institute in typing, tailoring and embroidery was started in Tiruchirappalli for giving life to Widows and Women.
Permission was accorded to take Virgins into the Congregation.

Sr. Francis Annammal was the first virgin admitted.

Golden Jubilee Celebration
First Novitiate was started at Melapudur in Tiruchirappalli.
General Chapter amended the Constitution and approved by Bishop Most Rev. Faisandier
Rev. Mother Regina Mary was elected as the Fifth Superior General.
Rev. Mother Arockiamary was elected as the Sixth Superior General
St. Anne’s High School was started as the first high school of the Congregation at Melapudur, Tiruchirappalli.
Platinum Jubilee Celebration.
Rev. Mother Damian Mary was elected as the Seventh Superior General.
New houses were started in Kerala for Tribals.
Sisters were sent for nursing and teacher training studies.
Further amendment to the Constitution was adopted by the General Chapter and approved by Bishop Most Rev. James Mandonza.
Rev. Mother Lucy Crescentia was elected as Eighth Superior General.
Reforms were initiated in the Congregation.
Jayaraj Annapackiam College for Women was started at Periyakulam in Theni District, Tamil Nadu.
Sisters were sent for higher studies to Foreign Countries.
Rules adopted by the Special Chapter and approved by Bishop Most Rev. Thomas Fernando were added to the Constitution.
Rev. Mother Leema Rose was elected as Ninth Superior General.
Institution for Disabled Children was established.
Started Dispensaries and Technical Institutes.
Sisters were sent for higher studies to other Institutions in Tamil Nadu.
New houses were started in Italy.
Centenary Celebration.
Elevated as Pontifical Congregation by His Holiness Pope Paul VI.
Congregation’s mission was started in Andhra Pradesh.
General Chapter decided to divide the Congregation into three Provinces.
St. Anne’s Generalate was shifted from Melapudur to Crawford, Tiruchirappalli.
New houses were started in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.
Joachim Province in Tiruchirappalli, Maria Province in Madurai and Valan Province in Palayamkottai were established.
Congregation’s mission started in Karnataka.
130th year Celebration
Rev. Mother Willigise was elected as Tenth Superior General.
Constitution and Statutes of the Congregation was formulated in the General Chapter in accordance with the deliberations of Vatican Council II.
New house was started in Iran.
SBT College of Special Education was started in Madurai.
Constitution and Statutes of the Congregation were approved by Holy See.
St. Anne’s Home for Aged Sisters (Power House) was started in Periyakulam.
Rev. Mother Edwige Dolorosa was Elected as eleventh Superior General.
Congregation’s ministry started in Maharashtra.
Snehalaya, Community House for Women Religious, was started in Bengaluru.
140th Year Celebration.
St.Anne’s Community College was started in Melapudur, Tiruchirappalli.
Formation House was started at Nagamangalam in Tiruchirappalli.
St. Anne’s Community College was started in Periyakulam.
Home for Aged Sisters was started at Munnirpallam.
Agnes Province in Kumbakonam and Arockiya Province in Mumbai were established.
Formation House was started at Chennai in Tamil Nadu.
Formation House was started at Indore in Madhya Pradesh.
The Congregation took over the management of Annai Velankanni Polytechnic College at Anguchettypalayam,Panruti in Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu.
Separate community for students – sisters was started in Periyakulam.
Formation House was started at Tanjore in Tamil Nadu.
Rehabilitation Centre was started at Kameshwaram in Nagapattinam District to offer relief to the Tsunami affected people.
Formation house was started at Vasai in Mumbai
Rev. Mother Xavier Maria Thangam was elected as Twelfth Superior General.
St.Anne’s College of Education was started at Periyakulam in Theni District, Tamil Nadu.
Arulagam Evangelical Centre was started in Tiruchirappalli.
Silver Jubilee Celebration of Joachim Province, Maria Province and Valan Province.
Sesquicentenary Celebration of the Congregation.
150 most deserving poor families were given individual Houses constructed by the Congregation.
Damian Province in Kerala was established.
Fully equipped Hospital started to function at Kameshwaram in Nagapattinam District.
St.Anne’s College of Engineering and Technology was started at Anguchettipalayam, Panruti in Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu.
Rev. Sr. Reginal was elected as Thirteenth Superior General.
Novitiates were combined to function at Crawford in Tiruchirappalli.
Formulation of Corporate Higher Education Policy of the Congregation.
Release of Annai Annammal’s 130th Memory Special Issue.
Renovation of Infant Jesus Church in Tiruchirappalli.
Release of book titled Annmeega Thedal Spirituality of the Congregation.
Started Casa Della Luce Retreat Centre at Mailothi in Italy in 10 acres of land and house donated by Mr. Mauro and Mrs. Eliza, Italy.
Spiritual Renewal of the Sisters in groups.
Renovation of St.Anne and Joachim Chapel at Melapudur in Tiruchirappalli.
St. Anne’s Home for Aged Sisters was started at Nagamangalam in Tiruchirppalli.
Province-wise Sisters Meet to strengthen Community Bondage and sharing.
The Congregation of the Causes of Saints recognized the foundress Mother Annammal as the Servant of God and gave Nihil Obstat to start the Beatification and Canonization process.
The Opening Ceremony of the Cause of Beatification and Canonization of the Servant of God Annammal held in Melapudhur under the President-ship of Most Rev. Antony Devotta D.D, the Bishop of Tiruchirapalli.

The Annai Annammal Museum opened. It depicts the life and works of the Servant of God Annammal, the history and ministries of the Congregation

The 18th General Chapter of the Congregation was held from 3rd-21st May, 2018. Rev. Mother Reginal was reelected as the Superior General of the Congregation.

Formation House for Aspirants was shifted to Snehalaya, Bangalore.
