The Solemn Closing Ceremony – Servant of God Annammal

By the grace of God, the Solemn Closing Ceremony of the Diocesan Inquiry on Life and Heroic Virtues of Servant of God Annammal, Founder of SAT started on 02-02-2022 at 10 am in St. Mary’s Cathedral at Trichy. General Secretary Sr. Jency welcomed Bishops, Commission members, Priests, Nuns and people. She highlighted the holy life of Annammal and her valiant contributions to society in the 19th century and the significance of this sacred ceremony. After that, the procession started from the entrance of the Cathedral, headed by the Most. Rev. Arch Bishop Dr. George Antonysamy, Chennai Mayilai Arch Diocese and the Most. Rev. Arockiaraj Bishop of Trichy Diocese, all the clergy, Superior General Rev. Sr Reginal, all the administrative members and all the commission members.

The Servant of God Annammal Diocesan inquiry closing ceremony began with the Holy Spirit song. The celestial choir was organized by Rev.Fr. Joe Joe Lawrence, Parish priest of Crawford, Trichy. Mrs. Jayaseeli read the scripture. Rev.Fr. John Kulanthai interceded for the church and the Congregation. Following that the President of the Historical Commission Rev. Fr. C. Joe Arun, S.J., explained the heroic and virtuous life of Servant of God Annammal in a nutshell. He highlighted her spiritual stamina, simplicity, humility, piety, hard work, fortitude, respect and reverence towards the bishops and priests and her unshakable faith in God. He inspired us to follow the footprints of our Founder.

Moving  further, the Most Rev. Arockiaraj Savaimuthu. Bishop of Tiruchirapalli delivered the special message. He lucidly explained the raw reality of the widows in the 19th century. How they were ill treated and how she swam against the running water in the midst of storms and cyclones and achieved her goal by starting the congregation for the widows to serve the marginalized and socially backward people through various ministries.

Oath taking ceremony was done by the commission members. Episcopal delegate Rev.Fr. Anthuvan invited Most. Rev. Arockiaraj Savarimuthu, Bishop of Tiruchirapalli to take the oath. The following members took oath following the invitation of the Episcopal Delegate.

Notary Rev.Sr. Mariammal Arulappan certified that all the commission members took oath in her presence and all had fulfilled their assigned duties. After the oath taking Rev. Bishop commanded Episcopal delegate, President of Historical commission and the Theological Censors to hand over the respective documents to him.

Following that Postulator Rev.Sr. Edwige Maria Antony declared that all the documents of the Episcopal commission, historical commission and the theological censor were submitted according to the norms and guidelines of the Church. The promoter of justice witnessed that he has confirmed the authenticity and integrity of all the documents handed over to the Bishop. Episcopal delegate promised that all the documents handed over to the Bishop were examined by him and they were true. After all these ceremonies Bishop appointed Rev.Fr. Anthuvan to be the courier for the diocesan inquiry, he swore and promised that he will faithfully execute his responsibility and it was certified by the notary.

Notary Rev.Sr. Mariammal Arulappan presented the report of the Servant of God Annammal Diocesan closing inquiry and it was signed by Episcopal delegate, Promotor of Justice, Postulator, vice-Postulator and the Notary. The signed report of the Diocesan closing Inquiry was placed by the postulator in the respective box. All the documents were placed in the respective boxes and it was sealed by the Bishop and he ordered to hand over the original copy to the diocese archives and he ordered to hand over the transcript and the public copy of the act of the diocesan inquiry to Fr. Anthuvan to transmit it to the Nunciature at New Delhi. With this Servant of God Annammal Diocesan inquiry closing ceremony came to an end gracefully. The solemn Holy mass was celebrated by Chennai Mayilai Arch Bishop and the Great, great grandson of Servant of God Annammal Most. Rev.Dr. George Antonysamy.

After the mass the Very Rev. Mother General Reginal SAT came forward to propose the vote of thanks as a token of love and appreciation of the support received from various resource persons, following that all the dignitaries were honoured with a shawl and a bouquet. In the end, we shared our joy with sumptuous lunch as a sign of gratitude.  We joyfully thank the Almighty for His wonderful deeds and His marvellous blessings.
